How to Verify a Skill Certificate Online

A printed certificate can be copied, edited or faked with a phone app in minutes. That is why serious employers do not rely on paper alone — they check the certificate with the organisation that issued it. This guide explains, step by step, how to verify a Nipun India skill certificate online using its certificate number or QR code, exactly what the result page shows, how employers should read it, and what to do when details do not match. It ends with general rules for verifying any skill certificate in India.

Why verification matters — for students and employers

• For employers: a 30-second online check confirms that the certificate exists in the issuer's records and that the name, course and marks match what the candidate claims.
• For students: checking your own certificate before applying lets you catch spelling or detail errors early, and lets you tell employers confidently, "You can verify it online."
• For everyone: regular verification makes fake certificates less useful, which protects the value of genuine ones.

What you need

The certificate number is printed on the certificate and marks card, usually labelled "Certificate No." It is different from the serial number and from the student's enrolment or application number.

Method 1: verify with the certificate number

1. Open a browser on a phone or computer and go to nipunindia.com/verify. Type the address yourself rather than clicking an unknown link.
2. Find the certificate number on the document. Copy it carefully.
3. Type it into the box labelled for the certificate number. Capital or small letters do not matter — the system treats them the same — and extra spaces at the start or end are ignored.
4. Click Verify Now.
5. Read the result page carefully (explained below).

Method 2: scan the QR code

1. Open your phone's camera or a QR scanner app.
2. Point it at the QR code on the certificate or marks card.
3. Before tapping the link, check the address shown. A genuine Nipun India QR code opens a page on nipunindia.com, in the form nipunindia.com/verify?id= followed by the certificate number.
4. Open it. The result for that certificate number loads directly, without typing.

What the result page shows

When a certificate number is found, the page shows a verification report with these parts:

The division shown is worked out from the percentage: 75% and above is shown as First Division, 60% and above as Second Division, 50% and above as Third Division, and below that as Pass Division.

Under the report there are buttons to download the report as PDF, print it, share the verification link (including on WhatsApp) and verify another certificate. The report does not show the student's phone number or email.

How employers should read the result

Finding a record is only the first step. Compare the report with the candidate and their documents:

• Status says the certificate is verified (issued), not pending.
• Name matches the candidate's photo ID exactly.
• Photo on the report (if shown) matches the person in front of you.
• Course name matches what is written on the resume and certificate.
• Dates make sense — the course period and issue date are consistent with what the candidate told you.
• Marks and grade match the printed marks card.
• Training center matches where the candidate says they studied.

Save or print the PDF report for your records with the date of checking. If the role involves accounts or other sensitive work, combine verification with a short practical test of the skill — a certificate shows the person passed an assessment, while a test shows what they can do today.

A simple verification process for HR teams

If your business hires regularly, make verification a routine step rather than a one-off. A simple process:

1. Collect the certificate number and issuer name in your application form or at interview.
2. Verify on the issuer's official website, typing the address yourself.
3. Compare the result with the candidate's ID and documents, using the checklist above.
4. Record the result: save the PDF report or a screenshot with the date, and note who checked it.
5. Test the skill with a short practical task related to the job.
6. Decide based on all of it — the verified certificate, the practical test and the interview.

Keep verification records with the employee's file. If a question arises later, you can show that the certificate was checked at the time of hiring.

If the result says "Certificate not found"

If the status shows pending

A pending status means a certificate record exists, but it has not been fully issued yet. Usually the student has passed, and the certificate is waiting for the final approval step. For students: ask your training center about the approval status. For employers: ask the candidate when the certificate will be issued, and verify again later before relying on it.

For students: if your details are wrong

1. Note exactly what is wrong — spelling, father's name, course name, dates, marks or photo.
2. Collect proof of the correct detail: Aadhaar, Class 10 certificate, or your marks card.
3. Inform your training center in writing (a letter or email) with copies of the proof.
4. Keep a copy of your request and follow up politely if there is no response.
5. After correction, verify again and download the new report.

Signs of a fake certificate

• No certificate number, or a number that does not verify on the issuer's own website.
• A QR code or link that leads to a website not owned by the issuer.
• Name, course or marks on the paper differ from the online record.
• Spelling mistakes in the organisation's name, uneven fonts or blurred seals.
• Course dates that are impossible — for example, a six-month course completed in four weeks.
• Someone offering a "certificate without exam" for money. Buying or using such a document can lead to legal trouble and job dismissal.

If you are offered a fake certificate, or discover one being used, you can report it to the organisation whose name is printed on it. Many issuers want to know, because fakes damage the trust in their genuine certificates.

Verifying other certificates in India
