- SIDH (skillindiadigital.gov.in) is MSDE's platform for courses, training centres, scheme enrolment, opportunities and digital certificates.
- Register with your own mobile number; keep Aadhaar ready for schemes that need eKYC.
- Pick courses based on a clear goal, finish one at a time, and practise offline.
- Online courses do not replace hands-on practice — use SIDH to find a training centre for practical trades.
- Scheme eligibility and rules change; confirm current details on the official portal.
The Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) at skillindiadigital.gov.in is the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship's main online platform for learners. In one place you can create a learner profile, take online courses (many of them free), find skill training centres near you, enrol in government skill schemes, see job and apprenticeship opportunities, and keep your skill certificates in digital form. This guide shows how a student can actually use it — not just sign up and forget.
SIDH is updated regularly, so menu names and screens may look a little different from the descriptions below. Focus on the purpose of each step. If something is not where you expect, use the search bar or the help section on the portal.
What SIDH offers learners
| Feature | How it helps you |
|---|---|
| Learner profile | One profile that stores your education, skills, courses and certificates. |
| Online courses | Self-paced courses from government and partner providers, many free, on topics from basic computer use to trade skills and soft skills. |
| Training centre search | Find skill centres near your location offering in-person courses. |
| Government scheme enrolment | Skill schemes such as PMKVY increasingly use SIDH for candidate registration and enrolment. |
| Jobs and apprenticeships | Discover opportunities and links to related portals. |
| Digital credentials | Certificates earned through the platform or linked schemes can be accessed digitally, and many government skill certificates are available through DigiLocker. |
Before you register
- Your own mobile number (OTP verification).
- An email address you check regularly.
- Aadhaar, if you plan to enrol in a government scheme that requires Aadhaar-based verification (eKYC).
- Your education details: Class 10, Class 12 and any higher or vocational qualification.
- A smartphone or computer with a stable internet connection. Earphones help with video lessons.
Your learner profile will hold your certificates for years. Register it with a number you will keep. No genuine official will ask you to share an OTP over the phone.
Step-by-step: create your learner account
- Open the official site. Type
www.skillindiadigital.gov.inin your browser. Avoid look-alike sites and links forwarded by strangers. - Choose to register or sign up as a learner. The portal has options for different users (learners, training providers, employers). Pick the learner/candidate option.
- Verify your mobile number. Enter your number and the OTP you receive.
- Fill in basic details. Name, date of birth, gender and address exactly as on your documents.
- Complete eKYC if prompted. Some services and scheme enrolments need Aadhaar-based verification. Follow the on-screen consent and OTP steps.
- Complete your profile. Add education, skills, preferred sector and location. A complete profile gives better course and job suggestions.
- Log out and log in again once to make sure you remember your login method.
Finding the right online course
The catalogue is large. Searching without a plan wastes time. Use this method:
- Decide your goal first. For example: "I want an office job, so I need Excel and email skills" or "I am a tailor and want to sell online."
- Search with a specific keyword such as "Excel", "tailoring", "beauty", "communication" or "digital marketing".
- Filter by language, duration, and free or paid if those filters are available.
- Open the course page and check: who provides it, what topics it covers, total duration, and whether it gives a certificate.
- Start with one course, finish it, then pick the next. Do not enrol in ten courses at once.
How to judge a course before starting
| Check | Good sign | Warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Topics | Clear list of modules matching your goal | Vague title with no module list |
| Practice | Exercises, quizzes, assignments | Only videos with no practice |
| Language | Available in a language you understand well | You struggle to follow |
| Length | Realistic for what it teaches | Promises job-readiness in a few minutes |
A four-week study plan using free courses
Here is an example plan for a Class 12 pass student aiming for an office job. Adjust the topics to your own goal.
| Week | Online (SIDH or similar) | Offline practice |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | A basic digital literacy or computer fundamentals course | 15 minutes of typing practice daily |
| 2 | A spreadsheet course covering formulas and formatting | Recreate a practice sheet like our Excel formulas guide |
| 3 | A workplace communication or soft skills course | Write three practice emails; record a 1-minute self-introduction |
| 4 | A job-readiness or interview skills course | Prepare your resume and practise answers with a friend |
Set a fixed time each day, for example 7–8 pm, and use earphones. Take short notes in a notebook; writing helps you remember far better than only watching.
Using SIDH for different goals
| Your goal | What to look for on SIDH | What to do alongside |
|---|---|---|
| First office job | Digital literacy, spreadsheet and communication courses | Typing practice; register on NCS |
| Learn a hands-on trade | Training centres near you for that sector; scheme batches | Visit centres; talk to people in the trade |
| Already working in a trade, no certificate | Information on Recognition of Prior Learning for your job role | Ask an approved centre if RPL is currently available |
| Start your own small business | Entrepreneurship and digital payment courses | Free Udyam registration when ready |
| Gain work experience | Apprenticeship opportunities and links | Register on the Apprenticeship India portal |
Keep a learning log
Employers often ask, "What have you been doing since you finished school?" A simple log gives you a clear answer and shows steady effort. Keep it in a notebook or a spreadsheet:
Date | Course / module | Time spent | What I practised
-----------|-----------------------------|------------|---------------------------
05-10-2026 | Spreadsheet basics, Unit 2 | 1 hour | SUM and AVERAGE on a sales list
06-10-2026 | Spreadsheet basics, Unit 3 | 1 hour | IF formula, 10 practice rows
07-10-2026 | Communication, Unit 1 | 45 min | Recorded self-introduction
Review the log every Sunday. If a week shows no practice, plan a fixed slot for the next week.
Finding a training centre near you
Online courses cannot replace hands-on practice in trades like tailoring, beauty, electrical work or machine operation. SIDH helps you find training centres:
- Open the training centre search or "find a centre" option.
- Enter your state, district or PIN code and the course or sector you want.
- Note the centres listed, their courses and contact details.
- Call and ask about batch dates, timings, fees (if any) and the scheme the batch runs under.
- Visit before enrolling. Check equipment, trainer and assessment process.
Our guide to choosing a training center has a checklist to take on the visit.
Enrolling in government skill schemes
Government skill schemes such as PMKVY now use SIDH for candidate registration and enrolment in many cases. The usual pattern is:
- You register and complete your profile (often with Aadhaar eKYC).
- You choose a job role and an approved centre running a batch, or the centre helps you enrol.
- Your attendance, assessment and certificate are linked to your profile.
Scheme rules — who is eligible, which job roles are open, and whether training is free — vary by phase and project. Read our PMKVY student guide and confirm current details on the official portal before you enrol.
Certificates and digital credentials
- After completing an online course, download the certificate (if provided) and save it in a dedicated folder.
- Link your DigiLocker account; many government skill certificates can be accessed there.
- Check that your name and date of birth on certificates match your Aadhaar and marksheets.
- List online courses separately from full training courses on your resume, so employers understand the difference.
Keep certificates from private training providers too. For example, certificates issued through Nipun India's partner centers can be verified at nipunindia.com/verify. See how to use a skill certificate in job applications.
Common problems and fixes
| Problem | What to try |
|---|---|
| OTP not received | Check signal and number; wait a minute before requesting again. |
| Aadhaar eKYC fails | Make sure your current mobile number is linked to Aadhaar and that name and date of birth match. Update Aadhaar details at an Aadhaar centre if needed. |
| Video does not play | Switch to a stronger network, lower video quality, or try another browser. |
| Course progress not saving | Stay logged in, complete each module fully, and avoid using several devices at once. |
| Cannot find a centre near you | Widen the search to nearby districts, or try a different sector name. |
Use the help or contact section on the portal for issues you cannot solve yourself.
Keep your account safe
- Log out after using a shared or cyber café computer, and never tick "remember me" on such machines.
- Do not share screenshots of your profile that show your Aadhaar number, date of birth and mobile number together.
- If you change your mobile number, update it on the portal and in Aadhaar before you lose access to the old SIM.
- Ignore messages that claim your SIDH account will be "blocked" unless you click a link or pay a fee. Log in directly by typing the address instead.
- Download important certificates as soon as they are issued and keep a backup, so you are not dependent on a single login.
If a training centre helps you register, sit with them while they do it, check that your own mobile number and email are entered, and change any temporary password yourself afterwards.
Getting real value from SIDH
- Finish what you start. One completed course beats five abandoned ones.
- Practise offline. Apply each lesson on paper, in a spreadsheet, or on real materials.
- Combine portals. Use SIDH for skills, the NCS portal for jobs and Apprenticeship India for apprenticeships.
- Update your profile after every course so it reflects your current skills.
- Talk about it in interviews. Be ready to explain one thing you learnt in each course and show how you practised it.
Used this way, SIDH becomes a record of steady learning rather than a one-time registration you forget.
